Safety Week in Early Years
During Safety week, Early Years explored road safety, stranger danger and safety within the classroom. To demonstrate how far germs spread, Miss Khalilah put glitter on her hand and blew it. This allowed Children to understand how the importance of washing their hands properly. Children also discussed how to keep safe on the roads. They looked at different road signs, crossings and practiced how to cross the road safely. All children took role of being pedestrians, Lollipop persons and drivers on the road. This immersive experience allowed them to learn how to be vigilant and safe on the roads. Lastly, Early Years explored ‘People who help us’. Through a variety of activities, they were able to recognise the risks associated with speaking to strangers. This was also linked with their Literacy, were children wrote a letter to the Owl Baby, advising him not to go out alone while listing the dangers of the night. Lastly, children played several games about people in our community that can help us, such as fire- fighters and police officers.
